Curious about fossil hunting? Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, this event is perfect for discovering amazing fossils!

What to Expect:

• Location: We’ll be exploring a fantastic spot known for its rich fossil finds.
• Terrain: Expect a 1-2 mile walk, including walking in the surf where the footing can be unstable or slippery. There’s a short but steep path from the parking lot to the beach, so be prepared for some uneven terrain.
• Sifting: While you can try sifting for fossils, it generally yields fewer finds compared to hunting directly in the surf. Sifters will be available if you’d like to use one.

Family Friendly:

• Age Recommendations: Kids of all ages are welcome! However, children under five might not find it as enjoyable. If possible, consider leaving very young kids at home, but we understand if they need to come along.

Details You’ll Need:

• Park Fee: The location has a $5 entrance fee per person.
• What to Wear: December 1 can be chilly, with temperatures from the mid-40s to low-50s °F. Dress warmly and wear waders to stay comfortable in the surf. If rain is expected, bring a poncho. Find essential gear recommendations here.
• Weather: The event is rain or shine, but extreme weather may cause cancellation.

• Waiver: A waiver is required for participation.
• Fossil Exposure: Wind direction, tides, and wave activity influence the exposure of fossils on the beach, and while we hope for great finds, fossil discoveries are never guaranteed.
