Join Us for a Special Holiday Fossil Hunt on December 22!

Celebrate the season with our festive holiday fossil hunt! This event is perfect for both new and experienced fossil hunters looking to enjoy a day of exploration and discovery.

What to Expect:

• Location: We’ll be exploring a special spot known for its rich fossil finds.
• Terrain: The walk will cover 4 miles in total. This includes a one-mile hike from the parking lot to the beach with a short but steep hill. Since we’ll be in the surf, waders are mandatory to stay comfortable and safe and footing can be unstable and slippery.
• Sifting: Sifting is available, but it generally yields fewer finds compared to hunting directly in the surf. Sifters will be provided if you’d like to use one.

Family Friendly:

• Age Recommendations: Kids of all ages are welcome! However, children under five might not find it as enjoyable. If possible, consider leaving very young kids at home, but we understand if they need to come along.

Details You’ll Need:

• Park Fee: The location has no entrance fee
• What to Wear: December 22 can be quite chilly, with temperatures ranging from the mid-40s to low-50s °F. Dress warmly and wear waders to stay comfortable in the surf. If rain is expected, bring a poncho. Find essential gear recommendations here.
• Weather: If it rains at all, the hunt will be canceled.

• Waiver: A waiver is required for participation.
• Fossil Exposure: Wind direction, tides, and wave activity influence the exposure of fossils on the beach, and while we hope for great finds, fossil discoveries are never guaranteed.
• Facilities: There are no bathrooms available. I will be bringing a privacy tent for anyone who needs to go urgently while we are hunting.
