How Exploring the Past Shapes Our Future

At Maryland Fossil Finders, we want to make fossil hunting and science fun for everyone. Did you know that more than 70% of museum visitors love looking at fossils? Fossils are one of the most popular things in natural history museums, but not everyone has a chance to enjoy them outside of museums.

People with disabilities often have trouble accessing outdoor activities like fossil huntingโ€”only about 2% of visitors to national parks have disabilities. We want to change that and make fossil hunting easier for everyone to enjoy.

Fossil hunting can also help teach kids science. In fact, students who get to learn with hands-on activities, like hunting for fossils, are more likely to understand and get excited about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). But, not every student has the chance to do this, especially those from low-income families or communities of color.

We also want to protect fossil sites from things like erosion and building projects. Fossil sites bring in a lot of visitors, too. For example, over 400,000 people visit Drumheller, Alberta every year just to see fossils!

At Maryland Fossil Finders, weโ€™re making fossil hunting fun and educational for all ages and abilities while teaching people to take care of nature. By supporting us, youโ€™re helping us give everyone the chance to discover fossils and learn more about the world around them.
