F.A.Q.

What exactly does Maryland Fossil Finders do?

We lead hands-on science walks along Marylandโ€™s beaches that focus on outdoor discovery and learning. Events are open to all ages, and we prioritize welcoming individuals with disabilities, kids, and families with limited access to outdoor education.

How much do events cost?

We use a pay-what-you-can model. We suggest a $3 minimum per participant over age 13, but no one is turned away for lack of funds.

How often do you have group hunts?

We usually host one to two public group hunts per month, mostly between spring and fall. We pause during winter but sometimes run special programs like trilobite walks in Pennsylvania.

How many people do you serve in a year?

We serve over 360 participants annually. Each hunt accommodates up to 40 people, and we aim to host at least nine events per yearโ€”bringing hands-on STEM experiences to families, students, and individuals of all abilities.

How can I learn more about future fossil hunts?

Check out marylandfossilfinders.com/events or follow us on Facebook. We also post updates through our email list and social media.

Are you insured?

Yes! We carry general liability insurance that covers our public events, volunteers, and participants.

What disabilities do you accommodate?

We welcome participants with mobility, sensory, developmental, and mental health disabilities. While some sites have limited infrastructure, we offer personal support, share detailed accessibility info in advance, and are actively fundraising for adaptive beach equipment.
